wow…very cool. Kind of hard to follow in some spots of your video. I found myself tryijng to figure out where you were at on your drawing board and just as i’d figure out what area you were referring to, you were way ahead of me, again. Would have been so much easier to follow if you’d have just used a pointer during your explanation. I’d love to see you use a pointer or laser pointer to help us follow you in the future. Thanks.

    This will take a …
This will take a few watches for me to get. But watching makes me feel as though we should have all been taught to do math this way as children. The way they taught us in school makes us lose the association and connection numbers has with the rest of the world. I think this makes math seem harder than it really is.

This would have helped me way back in school, as I totally stressed at math. But it’s never too late to learn!! I plan on teaching this to my 7 year old son.

    People you don’t …
People you don’t have to draw 54 lines for 999×999…
You just draw 9 lines and write 9 for each, then multiply and write the results in crosses…
Then sumarize as our great teacher does :D

    ruler… relax and …
ruler… relax and you’ll get it… 4, 12, and 7 are not 4 12 and 7… they are 400, 1200, and 700… the hundreds place only has space for one digit… so… when you add… 4,12,and 7… you get 23… so the 2 in the 1000′s place gets moved over to the 1000s place to the left…

    i can’t figure out …
i can’t figure out where the logic is when you get in the 100′s place and you add 4, 12, and 7. i mean i can’t see how all those numbers are connected in such a way to get to such a conclusion. i’ve been staring at this method for 40 mins and don’t see the understanding behind it. someone i beg of you please open my eyes, or point me in the right direction to look. i mean maybe i do see, if it’s like each number place value depends on which group of intersecting lines touch each other once.

  18. by ruleram1, on September 19 2009 @ 4:29 pm

    then again, i’ve …
then again, i’ve noticed it’s best to look at something in the rawest way possible. i mean slapping on the numbers to the lines is just adding abstract thinking into the equation that a line can have a different value than one.

Actually, I found it easier if you just draw a simple box with numbers. Instead of 12 lines for 57 (5 lines and 7 lines ) just draw two with 5 and 7 above each of them. Now just multiply the intersecting lines then add!
